The Latvian company SIA Kronis, which received a grant from the Ministry of Defense worth almost 52,000 euros in 2019, has started the production of new dry rations packs for soldiers.
"Thanks to the successful cooperation with the local entrepreneur Kronis, our soldiers will have access to high-quality, tasty food produced in Latvia in the field, in the development of which local ingredients are mostly used,” said Minister of Defense Artis Pabriks.
Within the framework of the project, Kronis has developed nine recipes for ready-made main meals, adapting them for industrial production.
The soldiers' dry food diet consists of nine types of dishes - lentils with chicken, vegetables and mushrooms, vegetable stew with chicken, beef goulash with buckwheat and mushrooms, pea porridge with meat, potatoes with minced meat sauce, pasta with Bolognese sauce, rice with minced meat sauce, and stewed cabbage with pork and chili conne.
As part of the grant program project, the company also improved its production technology by extending the shelf life of dry food. At present, the shelf life of the product is three years, but it is planned to develop new solutions to further extend the shelf life of the food while maintaining high quality.
The Ministry of Defense 2022 grant program project competition is currently open and entrepreneurs are invited to apply by 22 July to support the development of military or dual-use items.
