Conference to examine resistance to occupation during World War II

An international conference to be held in Latvia next week will tackle a complex topic: notions of Latvian statehood during the period of the Second World War.

Marking the 80th anniversary since the signing of the memorandum of the Central Council of Latvia, the Latvian War Museum, in cooperation with the Latvian Occupation Museum, is organizing an international scientific conference on May 8, 2024.

Titled "Ideas of Latvian statehood and the possibilities of their implementation during the Second World War", the conference will provide an update on current research on resistance movements and compare the ideas of the statehood of the occupied Baltic states and the possibilities of their implementation during the years of the Second World War and its aftermath.

The conference will be attended by historians and researchers from Latvia and also from Estonia, Lithuania and Poland.  The conference will take place at the Latvian War Museum, Riga, Smilšu Street 20 from 10:00 on May 8.
