May 4 military parade will take place in Alūksne

This year's May 4 military parade in honor of Latvia's restoration of independence day is taking place in Alūksne in north-east Latvia.

Numerous events are planned, starting at 09.00 with a service in Alūksne Evangelical Lutheran Church, followed at 11:00 by the main parade of units and equipment of the Latvian and foreign armed forces, the State Border Guard, the State Fire and Rescue Service, the State Police and others, which will take place at the Alūksnes New Castle, in the presence of President Egils Levits. Weather permitting, there will also be flypasts.

After the parade, until 16.00, at the Pilssala stadium, there will be an opportunity to see stands of military equipment, weapons and equipment, as well as various demonstrations, including the National Armed Forces Military Police dog handlers, dog handlers of the State Border Guard Unit, and dog handlers of the State Police.

Latvian Television will have live coverage of the parade from 10:55 until 12:00, and a livestream will also be available to watch here on LSM.

It has become a tradition since 2012 for the May 4 parade to take place in a different Latvian city each year.

More information about the full range of events can be found on the website of the municipality of Alūksne: www.aluksne.lv
