Latvia opens another chapter at Frankfurt book market

Between October 16 and 20, Latvia will participate with a national stand at the Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse), one of Europe's most important literary events of the year.

"This year, at the Frankfurt Book Market, we will continue to pay international attention to the translations of Latvian literature abroad, as well as once again confirm our desire and readiness to apply for guest country status at the Frankfurt Book Market from 2028 to 2030, and we will continue negotiations on this with the management of the Frankfurt Book Market, emphasizing Latvian diversity of cultural, bookshop and literary offers," said Rita Dementjeva, representative of the Latvian Literature platform.

On October 17 at At 17.00, a reception will be held at the Latvian stand, to which foreign publishers of Latvian literature and other cooperation partners are invited.

In order to continue negotiations on Latvia's application to participate in the Frankfurt Book Market as a guest country, during the market, the Minister of Culture, Agnese Lāce, will meet with the director of the Frankfurt Book Market, Juergen Boos, and attend events in which Latvian authors are represented.

The location of the Latvian national stand is: Hall 4.1, Stand D2.

The stand in Frankfurt, similar to the previous years, is designed as the apartment of the characters created during the export campaign featuring introverted writers.

This year, among the participants of the stand are the publishing houses Latvijas Mediji, Zvaigzne ABC, Liels un mazs, Avots, Jāņa Rozes apagdas, Pētergailis, Aminori, Madris and the Association of Latvian Book Publishers.
