Latvia is an open book in Leipzig

German lovers of Latvian literature should make their way to the Leipzig book fair (Leipziger Buchmesse) where Latvia has a stand up and running with an extensive program of events from March 21 to 24.

Latvia will be represented in Leipzig as usual by the platform Latvian Literature and the printing company Jelgava Typography, while authors doing the rounds include Anete Melece, Lote Vilma Vītiņa, Laura Vinogradova, Toms Treibergs, Ligija Purinaša, Māris Salējs and Inga Pizāne.

This year, the national stand in Leipzig reverts to the successful #iamintrovert theme that has become a popular fixture at many previous book fairs.

"The main task in this market is to introduce the German-reading audience to the newest Latvians authors' works published in Germany, as well as, of course, to attract new publishers," said representative of the Latvian Literature patform, Rita Dementjeva.

Also this year, similar to last year, several Latvian events will be held both in Leipzig market and at city events dedicated to literature.

This year, the Leipzig book fair has around 2,500 participants and more than 2,400 individual events. Latvia's participation is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture.
