The book is special in that it is available in both Latgalian and English.
Andryvs Jūrdžs (1845-1925) is one of the most prominent figures of the national renaissance of Latgale, Eastern Latvia. Jūrdžs was extremely gifted, self-taught several languages, translated different materials into Latgalian, including the Scripture, as well as proverbs, folk songs, observations. Jūrdžs' hand-written books could be as thick as a thousand pages. These had great significance in Latgalian education, as book typography and publication was forbidden.
The author of the biography, Jōņs Cybuļskis (1911-1997) was Andryvs' grandson. The book publication was initiated and financially supported by the entrepreneur Peter Alois Ragauss, now living in the US, who is also a part of the Jūrdžs family.
The book "Andryvs Jūrdžs" tells the story of not only the man's and his family's lives but also the socio-political scene of Latgale at the time.
This is the second book by Cybuļskis issued in English. In 2019, the book "Veritas nostra est. Patīseiba ir myusu" was published in English and Latgalian.
The book was translated into English by Aija Nagle-Īzaka. The presentation of the book will take place on September 4 in Rēzekne municipality, Rogovka. It will also be streamed live on Facebook.
