Crime writer Andris Kolbergs passes away

Writer Andris Kolbergs has passed away at Pauls Stradiņš University Clinical Hospital today, the LETA newswire reported November 6.

Kolbergs was one of the most popular and prolific Latvian crime novel writers. His works have been translated into 16 languages, and films based on Kolberg's works have been made.

According to the information available on the portal "literatura.lv", he was born on December 21, 1938.

This year, a multi-series film "Look for a Woman" based on the crime novel of the crime genre classic Kolberg is also being made.

During the years of national awakening, he became the first chairman of the renewed Riga Latvian Society, the president of the Latvian Detective Genre Association and the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Atpūta". He has also written several tourist guides to Riga.

In 2011, he received the Literature of the Year Award for a lifetime contribution to literature. In 2019, he was also awarded the Order of the Three Stars.
