Register now for world Latvian dictation day

Take note – story published 1 year ago

On the National Language Day, Saturday, October 15, at 12:20 Rīga time the annual world dictation day in Latvian will take place simultaneously in Latvia and around the world for the eighth year in a row.

The text for this year's event was created especially for this purpose by the Latvian writer and journalist Osvalds Zebris. It will be dictated by actor and director Gerds Lapoška at the Latvian National Library in Rīga.

To participate, you need to register in advance on the initiative's website , where you can choose one of 14 in-person writing locations in 11 Latvian cities. Also, when preparing for dictation, you will be able to receive a link to a master class dedicated to the most popular mistakes in the Latvian language and in dictation generally.

This year, the dictation will be broadcast live on the Latvian Radio 1 program "Kultūras rondo" and on Latvian Television – those interested will be able to write down the dictation while listening to the radio or watching television. The dictation can be written online not only on the website raksti.org, but also on the Latvian public media portal lsm.lv.

For those who want to write in person, the organizers of the event recommend registering in good time on the initiative's website, as the number of places is limited. This year, participants can choose between 11 Latvian cities: Rīga, Ventspils, Liepāja, Valmiera, Jēkabpils, Jelgava, Bauska, Rēzekne, Daugavpils, Lielvārde and Cēsis - and there will be four in-person writing places in Riga.
