Latvian Dons ranks 16th in Eurovision

Saturday, May 11, saw the Eurovision finals take place in Malmö, Sweden. After the final vote, Latvia's representative Dons ranked 16th.

Switzerland was crowned winner.

The 68th Eurovision made history in Latvia with Dons breaking a seven-year unlucky streak of Latvian artists failing to qualify for the final. Before Dons, the last one to qualify was Justs with 'Heartbeat' in 2016.

The final saw 25 countries competing: Sweden, Ukraine, Germany, Luxembourg, Israel, Lithuania, Spain, Estonia, Ireland, Latvia, Greece, United Kingdom, Norway, Italy, Serbia, Finland, Portugal, Armenia, Cyprus, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia, Georgia, France, Austria. Initially, there were 26, but the Netherlands' contestant was disqualified.

All three Baltic States made it into the final, with Lithuania finishing 14th and Estonia 20th.

Latvia's Dons performed with the ballad "Hollow", co-written with Irish songwriter and producer Liam Geddes and American songwriter Kate Northrop, and was originally released in Latvian under the title "The Kingdom of Broken Spears" (Lauzto šķēpu karaļvalsts).

Congratulations to Dons!
