Five candidates for Latvian Olympic Committee president

Five candidates have been nominated for the post of President of the Latvian Olympic Committee (LOK), LETA was informed by the LOK on May 10.

The current head of the organization, Jānis Buks, is not running for the post of president, but a long-time politician of the ruling party "New Unity", Jānis Reirs, is.

Reirs has been nominated by the Latvian Luge Federation. The Latvian Sailing Union nominated Ansis Dāle, the Latvian Hockey Federation – Viesturs Koziols, the Latvian Athletics Union – Arnis Lagzdiņš, while Raimonds Lazdiņš, who was previously involved in various political processes, has the support of 16 different federations.

In total, 87 candidates have been nominated for elected positions in the LOK. Of the 39 federations currently registered as members of the LOK, 37 have exercised their right to nominate candidates.

There are also five candidates for the post of Secretary General, 27 for the post of Executive Committee member, 53 for the post of individual member, and seven for the post of Audit Commission member.

Raitis Keselis, Nauris Metnieks, Raimonds Lazdiņš, Vladimirs Šteinbergs and Kārlis Lejnieks, who currently holds the post, are candidates for the post of Secretary General of the LOK.

The review-election session of the LOK General Assembly will take place on June 4. The 21 federations that requested the General Assembly believe that the current LOk President, Jānis Buks, has not fought hard enough for sports funding and common interests.
