Latvian Olympic Committee elects new president

Jānis Buks, president of the Latvian Volleyball Federation, was elected as president of the Latvian Olympic Committee (LOK) at the extraordinary General Assembly on Tuesday, July 11.

68 votes were cast for him. 50% plus one or a minimum 53 votes were needed to elect a temporary president.

Three candidates had been nominated for the post of president of LOK - President of the Latvian Volleyball Federation Jānis Buks, Honorary President of Latvian Modern pentathlon Andris Feldmanis, and President of the Latvian Federation of Rowing Gunta Vlasenko. Feldmanis received 24 votes and Vlasenko five.

It has already been reported that Žoržs Tikmers had left the post of president of LOK in mid-May, at the center of media attention with a potential conflict of interest. Now LOK General Assembly is trying to get a new president for a year, with elections scheduled for a full cycle in 2024.
