Rīga Marathon returns this weekend

On May 18 and 19, the most ambitious grassroots sports event in the Baltics, the Rimi Riga Marathon, will bring together more than 30,000 running enthusiasts from almost 100 countries, including top-ranking professionals

The fiercest battle for a place on the podium is expected in the half marathon, where a particularly strong line-up of participants will compete on the same course where the world champions were crowned last October.

It will also be a tough battle between the best Latvian runners, who will share the Latvian championship honors in both the mile and the marathon. The 5 km and 10 km distances will also be contested. Due to the strong turnout, the organizers expect the Riga Marathon and possibly Latvian records to fall in several distances.

Both the elite and overall races and the general mood of the Rimi Riga Marathon will be broadcast live on Latvian Television (LTV) on May 19, which will also be available on LSM.lv from 7:30 am. On Sunday, the marathon and half-marathon runners will be the first to take to the track at 8 am, while the 10km and 5km races will start a little later at 12:30 and 14:30.

Registration for the classic marathon, half marathon, 10 km, and 5 km distances is still open on the Rimi Riga Marathon website. The maximum number of participants has already been reached for the Mile Race and the Olympic Children's Day. The organizers remind that all registered participants will be able to receive their numbers at the Rimi Riga Marathon EXPO, which will take place on May 17 and 18 at the Rimi Olympic Center.

The Rimi Riga Marathon has been awarded the World Athletics quality marks, while the marathon and mile distances also have Latvian championship status.
