Latvia makes it three hockey wins in a row

On Friday May 19, Latvia's men's ice hockey team racked up a third win in a row at the IIHF World Championship in Rīga, further raising hopes of securing a quarter-final berth.

Latvia defeated Slovenia 3:2, with the goals for the home team coming from brothers Rihards and Roberts Bukarts, as well as Kaspars Daugavins, who was recognized as the best player in the team.

In their final two matches of the group stages, the Latvian national team will play Kazakhstan on Saturday and Switzerland on Tuesday. The four top teams in the group will advance to the quarterfinals. 

Earlier in the group, the Latvians lost to Canada  (0:6) and lost to Slovakia  (1:2), but in overtime they defeated the previously unbeaten Czechs (4:3) and beat the Norwegian national team (2:1). Meanwhile, the Slovenians have lost all their matches so far.

The World Championship is taking place in Rīga and the Finnish city of Tampere, with the final on May 28.
