Latvian basketball team scores first win in EuroBasket qualifications

The Latvian men's national basketball team celebrated victory in the first qualifying match of the 2025 European Championship in Zaragoza on Thursday. Latvia defeated Spain 79:75.

Rihards Lomažs had 18 points and seven assists, Andrejs Gražulis scored 13 points and Jānis Timma had 11 points and five rebounds. 

The Latvians were more accurate in two-point (66.67%/42.11%), three-point (45.45%/29.17%), and free throw (69.23%/64.71%).

On Sunday, Latvia will host Slovakia at Arena Riga. 

The Latvian team has already secured the right to play in the final tournament, which will take place in Riga in August and September 2025. For the other teams in Group C - Belgium, Slovakia, and Spain - the results of their matches against the Latvian team will be taken into account to determine the winners of the two qualification places.
