New 'Daugava' athletics hall finished

The multifunctional athletics hall of the Daugava stadium was commissioned December 28, and it will be opened to visitors in early 2024.

The hall is a long-awaited facility that will provide modern training and competition conditions for professional athletes and provide an opportunity for physical activities of children and young people as well as Paralympic sports.

The indoor space is primarily intended for training and competition in athletic disciplines, while the outside is suitable for team sports. The hall features a gym, spacious changing rooms for athletes, coaches, and referees, massage rooms, sauna, athletes' lounges, first aid, and doping control rooms.

Latvian Athletics Union President Arnis Lagzdins is pleased with the new structure.

“This is a celebration for the vast family of athletics. We've been waiting a long time for this event,“ said Lagzdiņš. “Thank you to everyone involved for a new home for athletes where new records will be achieved and results recognized.”

Education and Science Minister Anda Čakša (New Unity) emphasized that modern premises promote children's and young people's interest in becoming more involved in physical activities.

It will be possible to change the layout of the spectator stands in the hall depending on the type of event with over 1600 seats available. The multifunctionality of the building will also enable concerts, exhibitions and events to be held there.
