Briedis wins in Moscow

Take note – story published 5 years ago

Latvian boxer Mairis Briedis scored a comfortable victory July 21 in Moscow over French opponent Brandon Deslaurier.

Briedis looked to be in peak shape, unlike his opponent. Nevertheless, despite offering little in the way of aggression, Deslaurier's defensive style allowed him to go the full 10-round distance at which point Briedis won a  points decision that was never in doubt.

In the process Briedis made it 24 career wins and just one loss. That came in his previous fight against Ukraine's Oleksandr Usyk who used the same Moscow fight night to secure the World Boxing Super Series cruiserweight final with a win on points over local favorite Murat Gassiev and become undisputed world champion.
