The government will discuss the possibility of watching hockey live on Thursday, Health Minister Daniels Pavļuts told Latvian Television May 24.

The Minister acknowledged that, in the view of the Ministry of Health, it should not be possible to allow unvaccinated people to watch ice hockey live, which would be epidemiologically dangerous. However, it will have to be assessed whether there are any legal threats related to possible discrimination against these people.

"We still believe that it would be unsafe for people who have been tested but not vaccinated to stay indoors for long periods, including watching hockey. Therefore, virtually no indoor activity is currently allowed for a large number of people. For vaccinated people, however, it is necessary to assess both the technical possibilities and whether such a situation will lead to discrimination, injustice towards those residents of Latvia who have not yet been vaccinated and who have not yet had such an opportunity. I am not talking about people who do not want to be vaccinated, but those who want and we have not been able to provide sufficient number of vaccines so that everyone can be vaccinated," Pavļuts said.

The government meeting will be held on Thursday. Health Ministry will present its assessment and the government will jointly have to make a decision on enjoying hockey in person, the health minister said.
