After a 10-year break, a Latvian motorist will participate in the famous Dakar Rally, LSM's sports editorial reported December 6.

Latvian Didzis Zariņš together with Lithuanian Antanas Juknevičius will start with the Lithuanian team Kreda in a Toyota Hilux vehicle, the team said on Monday. Zariņš has participated in the Dakar five times, and his best success is 26th rank with Andris Dambis.

“It is a great pleasure that after a long time there will also be the name of Latvia at the Dakar, it is pride not for me alone, but for all of us as a country,” Zariņš was quoted by his team.

Latvia's best achievement in the competition is Jānis Vinters' sixth place in 2007 in the motorcycle category. The 2022 Dakar will take place January 2 to 14.
