The 2-man team piloted by Oskars Melbārdis returned this season to win the December 12 IBSF Europe Cup stage in Königssee, according to organizers.

The victory with brakeman Intars Dambis was ensured with a two-run total time of 39.24 seconds. The Latvian team placed first in both runs. The German team piloted by Philipp Zielasko won second place, lagging behind by 0.11 seconds.

Ralfs Bērziņš and Dāvi Spriņģi placed 9th, and Emīls Cipulis and Ivo Dans Kleinbergs finished 16th, but Dāvis Kaufmanis and Arnis Bebrišs placed 18th out of 32 teams.

Olympic champion Melbārdis missed the last season due to health concerns, which is why he decided to begin the season at the European level. The Europe Cup is one level below the World Cup competition. So far this season Melbārdis won second place in two competitions.

The Europe Cup stage in Königssee will finish Saturday and Sunday with two 4-man team competitions.
