Latvian Olympic Committee condemns Russia's possible participation

The participation of athletes from the aggressor countries Russia and Belarus in the Olympic Games under any flag is inadmissible, said the Latvian Olympic Committee (LOK) on January 27, newswire LETA reported.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) this week asked to look into ways for Russian and Belarusian athletes to return to international competition. Last week, the IOC consulted with IOC members, athletes' representatives, international sports federations and national Olympic committees.

On Friday, the LOK stated that the position of the organization was, is, and will be unchanged. "As long as there is a war in Ukraine, the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in the Olympic Games under any flag is inadmissible," said the LOK on Twitter.

Russia and Belarus have been sidelined from most Olympic sports since the invasion of Ukraine last February.
