Latvian biathletes Andrejs Rastorgujevs and Baiba Bendika secured third place in the mixed pairs relay discipline at the BMW IBU World Cup event in the Czech Republic on March 5, which is the highest relay placing in Latvian biathlon history.

The Norwegian pair won gold and the Swiss silver, while Rastorgujevs and Bendika secure themselves bronze medals and a place in the history books.

Coach Ilmars Bricis said he was pleased, while noting that the shooting could have been better so there remained room for improvement.

After the race Bendika said: "It took a bit longer time than we were hoping because we always knew this format is a really good place for us. at the same time, it is tricky and not easy to get on the podium."

Rastorgujevs said: “I am really happy today; good shooting, maybe not perfect but good enough for the podium.”
