Latvian striker Krollis signs for Serie A club Spezia

Latvian striker Raimonds Krollis has signed a contract with the Serie A team Spezia, ​​the Italian club announced on Friday, January 20.

21-year-old Krollis is fresh from winning the Latvian league with Valmiera, with his power up front a crucial part of Valmiera's first-ever Virsliga title. He scored 24 goals and provided 5 assists in 34 games. 

"I am very pleased with Raimond's joining the A-series club, I am especially pleased that it happened with a Latvian player," said Valmiera's head coach Jurģis Kalns about the official transfer. "I wish Raimonds not to stop at what he has achieved and to continue to develop his talent, which he clearly has," said Kalns. 

With 18 points in 18 games, the Spezia team ranks 15th in the 20-club Serie A league are likely to be among those fighting to retain a place in the top flight. Nevertheless, it represents a massive step up for Krollis, who is also a first-choice starter for the Latvian national team with 3 goals in 27 matches so far.

Krollis joined Valmiera for the 2021 season, having previously made a name for himself with the rival Metta team. He quickly became a fan favorite and club captain thanks to his determination and physical presence as well as his goalscoring ability.
