Here are Latvia's first results at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Biathlon

Latvia's biathlon hope Andrejs Rastorgujevs placed 24 in men's sprint with three misses. He finished 24th in the sprint discipline on February 11 and will shortly partake in the pursuit event. 

Germany's Arnd Peiffer scored the gold medal, Michal Krcmar of the Czech Republic took silver and Dominik Windisch of Italy took bronze.

Oskars Muiznieks finished 66th place and failed to qualify for the pursuit event.

Meanwhile Baiba Bendika made 4 mistakes in the women's biathlon sprint event but gained six places in the pursuit event. Laura Dalmeier became the Olympic champion.

Luge

Kristers Aparjods, an Olympic debutant, ranked 11th in the luge singles event. Inārs Kivlenieks ranked 20th and Artūrs Dārznieks ranked 24th.

Speed skating

Roberto Puķītis placed 11th in men's 1500 m speed skating event. 

Latvian man arrested for theft

A curious event took place in PyeongChang on February 11.

A Latvian man was arrested after trying to steal hockey equipment from the Finnish hockey team during a game. After being spotted by volunteers, he was detained by police. While not behind bars now, he can't leave South Korea until February 26. The 27-year-old has a criminal record in Latvia as well, reported LETA.
