The wall has been built on the 23-meter tall defunct Ogre water tower that for decades failed to perform its function.
"It's the largest, the highest [wall], and it's going to be here now. There are very few walls that are so high even in Europe, because they usually build lower ones," said Rolands Ruģēns, author of the project idea.
“In this case, our aim was to hide the tower and put it all in a more beautiful visualization, then we decided we would use its full height.”
The first to try the new wall was the European champion in climbing sports, Edvards Gruzītis. He said that the wall will open up more opportunities for Latvians on their way to the Olympics, as rock climbing is an Olympic sport.
The building of the wall amounted to €600 thousand, of which 85% is public funding.
