Latvia's Aļona Ribakova set a new national record in 200-meter breaststroke at the Rio Olympic Games on Wednesday, without however qualifying for the semifinals.

Ribakova broke the previous national record, which she set two years ago, by 0.7s, finishing in 2m 30.82s.

However she finished only 27th among 29 swimmers. She would have had to finish at least 16th to make it into the semifinals.
