The 23-year-old Latvian has thus agreed on the most lucrative contract in national sports history. This also happens to be the biggest contract in the history of the Mavericks club.

Previously, the biggest deal in Latvian sports history belonged to the former NBA basketball player Andris Biedriņš who agreed on a six-year 62 million dollar contract with the Golden State Warriors in 2008.
Porziņģis has now fully recovered from the severe knee injury he suffere in February 2018. In January 2019, in a major swap of players with the New York Knicks, he got into the Mavericks team. Shortly after the trade, the Dallas club revealed its plans to enter into a long-term contract with Porziņģis.
The Latvian has not played since 6 February 2018, but has in recent months expressed his determination to be ready on the first day of the pre-season camp.
Porziņģis was the no. 4 overall pick in the NBA 2015 draft. Until now in his NBA career, he has scored an average of 17.8 points and 7.1 rebounds in 186 games. In the 2017./2018. season, he scored an average of 22.7 points, 6,6 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in 48 games.
