Anastasija Sevastova (WTA No. 13) beat Latvia's No.2 racket Aļona Ostapenko (WTA No. 29) in a three-set battle with 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 in the first round of the Stuttgart Open, organizers say.

The game had an intense start with both players in top shape but Sevastova won squarely 6-2. After a rebound by Sevastova in the second set, Ostapenko managed to hold on in the end.

But the last set was very one-sided.

Sevastova has earned 55 WTA points for the victory. This was the second time the Latvians faced off one another. The last time, Ostapenko quit the game in the second set with Sevastova ahead with 6-3, 3-1.
