Artistic team leave positions at Latvian National Theater

Following the lead of the chief artistic director Elmārs Seņkovs, other high-ranking staff have left the National Theater, Latvian Radio reported August 2.

As reported, Seņkovs left the post due to differing views on the theater's future with the newly elected director of the theater Māris Vītols.

On Wednesday, the chief artist Reinis Suhanovs also announced he was leaving his job, and shortly after that – the musical department director Edgars Mākens and choreographer Elīna Gediņa. Until now, the artistic team Suhanovs, Gediņa and Mākens worked at the theater under Seņkovs' leadership. According to information from the theater, they have decided to "change their legal status" at the theater.

Suhanovs indicated his reason for leaving was the same as for Seņkovs – an inability to agree on the theater's future work with Vītols.

It is indicated that the artists will still continue collaborating with the theater and have launched rehearsals for new stageplays.
