Latvia's annual theater awards presented

On Thursday, November 23, Latvia's annual top theater awards were given out in the traditional "Spēlmaņu nakts" (Night of Players) ceremony.

The awards were given out in 21 categories.

The grand prize for the best large-scale play was given to the play "Malleus Maleficarum. Jaunais līgums", created by the foundation INITIUM and directed by Iveta Pole.

The best small-scale play was "Nelabie. Pēc Dostojevska" at Valmiera Drama Theater, whereas "Paolo and Frančeska" at Valmiera Drama Theater scooped the title of the best play for children and youth.

Elmārs Seņkovs was named the director of the year for the play "Nelabie. Pēc Dostojevska". The title of the best actor went to Arturs Krūzkops, and best actress – Dārta Daneviča.

In LSM's audience vote, where anyone could pick a favorite actor, actress, and play, the titles went to Maksims Busels, Ieva Segliņa, and the performance "Zēni nav meitenes", respectively.
