First SPAR shop opens in Latvia

International retail chain SPAR has opened its first shop in Latvia, Saldus, the LETA newswire reported August 11.

The Saldus SPAR assortment contains products from local producers and other popular products and brands in the Baltic, as well as products from the SPAR private brand.

Representatives of Spar Latvija said that the next SPAR network shop will be opened in Liepāja in August.

The goal of Spar Latvija is to open at least 200 SPAR network stores in Latvia within five years. 

The company belongs to Aleksandrs Svarevskis (50 percent), GECO (27 percent), Prodimpekss Logistikas Grupa (10 percent), Valerijs Ivasenki (8 percent) and Andris Vilcmeiers (5 percent).

SPAR launched operations in 1932 in the Netherlands, and now has more than 13,500 stores in 48 countries of the world. In 2020, 181 new stores were opened, and the aggregate turnover reached EUR 39.8 billion.
