"As in other places in Rīga, the entrepreneurs whose businesses are located in the vicinity of Mūkusala Street are creating a new brand – “MŪKU SALA”, the goal of which is to unite under one name the companies operating in the territory and the projects that will be implemented here in the near future. The initiators of the creation of the brand are the management of the office centre Mūkusala Business Centre," said a release.
“MŪKU SALA” (which in Latvian means “Monk island”) is to be used to "popularise the area of Mūkusalas Street and to create a sense of community for those who run their businesses and those who are only visiting the neighbourhood," the release said.
"Mūkusala as a territory has a rich history, but that does not mean that we are only looking at the past. The MŪKU SALA brand is a symbol that the inhabitants of this place and those who work and visit here write their own history, promote the value and recognizability of this environment,” said Iveta Bahmane, Chairman of the Board of Mūkusala Business Centre.
“The richness of Riga is that the city does not have a distinctly dominant neighbourhood - each of them has its own place in the features of the city. I believe that Mūkusala, with its stable development and implementation of future projects, already shows how wide are the opportunities for development in this place. In addition, the forthcoming construction of the promenade on the left bank of the Daugava will connect this area even closer to the rest of the city,” she added.
The authors of the new brand MŪKU SALA are the design office H2E, with development and implementation by the communication agency MATCH.
In the near future, several large-scale projects will be implemented in the vicinity of MŪKU SALA - the construction of the Class A office building “Zeiss Biroji” and the 240-room student hotel project on Jelgavas Street are already underway, while the implementation of the multi-storey car park project has also started. Meanwhile the Torņakalns area near the Academic Centre of the University of Latvia on Jelgavas Street will be connected with the rest of the area by the newly built pedestrian and cyclist bridge which is now being developed by the Riga City Council.
Offices for such companies as Tele2, Bolt, Delfi, Cognizant and Civinity are among those located in the territory of Mūkusala Business Centre.
