The “RB Cafe”, opening on June 12, is a brand new example of social entrepreneurship, a business model that aims to solve various social problems and benefit the community at large. The cafe, on Bruņinieku iela 63, has employed seven individuals with disabilities.

“This will be a place for special individuals. We will be offering baked goods – cakes, pastries, croissants as well as coffee and refreshing drinks,” said Māris Grāvis, the board member of the “RB Cafe” Ltd in an interview with Latvian Television June 11.

Anita, the chief baker, will supervise the workers, helping them acquire the skills and techniques necessary in the workplace. “They are trying. Mutual communication is very important. They are all very special and hard-working. I think that we'll be fine,” said Anita.

The “RB Cafe” will offer not only fresh baked goods but also provide banquet hall services.

“The aim of the cafe is not to keep our workers forever but rather to create a platform for them to gain experience and qualify themselves, so that they could then enter the free market and work at other bakeries, other cafes,” said Grāvis.

The cafe's official opening is taking place on June 12, whereas it will be open for visitors from the morning of June 13.
