During the weekend of March 12-14, the “Women. Technology. Sustainability.” hackathon took place at the end of a week-long celebration of International Women's Day.

The online hackathon gathered over 200 participants from around the world. As previously reported by LSM, the goal of the hackathon was to encourage participants to try their hand at creating and managing tech related projects.

The main prize went to the team “Grow With Me” which worked on creating a subscription-based online platform for kids’ clothes and accessories. The second place went to the team “MakeItFast” which developed an app that could help with the mooring process thus saving time, money, and even lives.

The best idea received a prize of 2,000 euros from the Tet telecoms firm, while the second-best idea received 1,000 euros from consultancy firm Accenture Latvia.

During the awards ceremony, teams “MakeItFast”, “Sing My Ethno” and “Doma” received the opportunity to participate in a pre-acceleration program from Startup Wise Guys. Special prizes were awarded to the teams “Sing My Ethno” and “MakeItFast” by the LMT company.

The hackathon gathered over 200 participants from more than 20 countries.

“We were pleased to see that a significant number of participants took part in the event, for whom this hackathon was the very first experience of its kind. The aim was to encourage them and stimulate their interest and we believe we were able to succeed at that. It's great to see the powerful ideas and prototypes that the teams were able to develop in just two days! We very much hope that the acquired knowledge and new contacts will allow the teams to continue working on what they have started so that more and more people can see how technology can help them live more sustainably. We also invite you to follow and get involved in the future activities of Riga TechGirls, as we offer the opportunity to learn technology skills free of charge,” said Marina Petrakova, representative of “Riga TechGirls”.
