Half of Latvia's population think euro was a good idea

Ten years after the introduction of the euro in Latvia, 51% of Latvia's residents consider the changeover to the euro a good decision, according to a survey of residents carried out by the research center Norstat in cooperation with LSM.lv.

The poll was conducted between December 19 and 28, 2023, surveying  1,006 respondents. These data are representative of Latvian residents aged 18-74 who use the Internet at least once a week.

To the question "10 years ago Latvia abandoned the lats and introduced the euro. To what extent do you agree that the changeover to the euro was a good decision?" 22% of respondents replied that they fully agreed, while 29% were more likely to agree. 17% rather disagreed with this, 19% disagreed completely, while 13% rather disagreed.

Younger people (aged 18-29) were more likely to agree that the introduction of the euro was a good thing (29% fully agreed, more likely to agree – 39%), while fewer people aged 50-59 agreed (fully agreed – 17%, rather agreed – 25%).

Latvians were more positive about the euro – 28% completely agreed that it was a good decision, but rather agreed – 32%, while Russian residents were more negative – 31% did not agree, but 20% rather did not agree.
