Cyber attack on deposit refund system Monday

On Monday, the possibility of paying with deposit vouchers at grocery stores could not be used due to a cyberattack on the deposit company's partner, Tomra Systems ASA, Latvian Television reported.

Empty deposit packaging can be handed over and the voucher is received. It will be possible to use it later when technical problems are resolved.

“These problems started yesterday [July 16]. Accordingly, Tomra, in line with its security procedures, also decided to lock part of its infrastructure to prevent the attack,” said Miks Stūrītis, Chairman of the Board of Depository Packaging Ltd., without forecasting how quickly the problem would be resolved.

Tomra Systems ASA told LTV that the extensive cyber attack had a direct impact on some of the company's data systems. The authorities concerned have already been informed and all available internal and external resources have been mobilized to limit and neutralize the incident.

“Our focus is now on restoring the operation of all systems as soon as possible,” the company statement said.
