The government of Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš (New Unity) has begun work on preparing this year's budget, as now Latvia has a cabinet installed following months of debates.
Finance Minister Jānis Reirs (New Unity) is planning on introducing government partners to the new timeline of the budget approval process next week. After discussion among government partners, the government is expected to approve the timeline. It is planned that the budget will be submitted for Saeima approval on March 8.
''The first tasks this government will tackle is this year's budget. Each sector and each resident is awaiting for the approval of the budget. We are planning to conclude the budget project by the beginning of March, as well as make sure everything is prepared for MPs so that the budget could be approved by parliament by the end of March,'' Kariņš said.
