Construction costs up slightly on year in Latvia

Data published on February 27 by the Central Statistical Bureau show that in January 2024, compared to January 2023, the level of construction costs in Latvia increased by 1.6 %.

Labor remuneration of workers increased by 6.8 %, maintenance and operational costs of machinery and equipment – by 3.6 %, while prices of building materials fell by 1.5 %.

In January 2024, compared to December 2023, the level of construction costs rose by 0.6 %. Labour remuneration of workers rose by 0.7 %, prices of building materials, as well as maintenance and operational costs of machinery and equipment increased by 0.6 %.

In January, the average level of construction costs was mostly affected by an increase in labour remuneration to workers carrying out finishing works (roofers, plasterers, sanitary technicians and others), as well as assemblers. The increase in labour remuneration of workers was affected by the Amendments to the General Agreement of the Construction Industry adopted on the minimum monthly wage in the construction sector, which entered into force on 1 January 2024.
