Latvian retail figures down in September

Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) and published October 27 show that, compared to September 2022, in September 2023 total retail trade turnover reduced by 4.1 %. 

Turnover of retail trade in food products declined by 0.4 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) decreased by 7.2 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel by 2.8 %.

Compared to September 2022, the most significant turnover growth was recorded in retail trade in pharmaceutical and medical goods (of 2.9 %). Total retail trade turnover at current prices fell by 1.7 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).

Compared to August, in September 2023, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises fell by 0.1 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 1.8%. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) reduced by 1.5 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel by 0.2 %.

As compared to the previous month, the most notable turnover growth was registered in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (of 10.4 %) and retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialised stores (4.6 %). The largest turnover drop was registered in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 7.2 %), retail sale of cosmetics and toiletries (2.6 %) and retail sale in stalls or markets (2.3 %).

Compared to August, in September 2023 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) decreased by 6.2 %.
