Average gross earnings in Latvia pass €1,000 a month

Data by Latvia's Central Statistical Bureau indicate that in the 2nd quarter of 2018, the gross monthly wage grew to €1,004 a month, the office said August 29.

Wages grew €78 or 8.4% on year on the average, with the growth rate registered in the 1st quarter of 2018 at 8.6 % and 4.6% in the 2nd. 

The data also indicate that the rise in wages and salaries was similar in both private and public sector, with the annual rise of earnings at 8.4% in the private and 8.5% in the public sector. 

The average gross wages and salaries constituted €991 in the private sector and €1035 in public sector, while in general government sector, which includes central and local government institutions, as well as enterprises controlled and financed by the central and local government, the average wages and salaries rose to €984 or by 9.2%.

Meanwhile the average net wage stands at €743. 

Compared to the previous quarter, net wages and salaries went up by 4.4%. Over the year, the earnings increased by 10.0%, showing 1.6%  higher rise than that of wages and salaries before taxes.
