Beer flow slows but microbrews grow

Latvian information agency LETA reported Tuesday that 34% less beer was produced in the country last year, according to the State Revenue Service.

The total 9.681 decaliters produced of Latvians’ favorite traditional alcoholic beverage couldn’t keep up with the amounts produced in 2013, before leading brewery Aldaris moved a large portion of its beer production abroad.

However, the State Revenue Service also reported a growing trend in microbrewed beer production from 26 smaller companies registered in Latvia last year, producing 23% of the country’s total beer output, up 16% from the size of the microbrew segment 2013.
