Since the lottery was launched in July 2019, 241,189 people have participated, submitting a total of 41.8 million checks, receipts, tickets, and invoices.
On Sunday, February 19, the big annual draw concluded the check lottery organized by the VID.
In general, the additional revenues declared by companies during the lottery, as well as the indirect impacts calculated by the VID, allowed increasing the revenues of the State budget by EUR 10.9 million. These revenues may still grow as the VID continues to analyze the checks submitted by residents in 2022.
Residents from all regions of Latvia participated in the lottery. In total, prize awards of €1.4 million were paid to the winners of the lottery. 30 companies also gave out awards, the most active of which were Valmiera shopping center Valleta and Rīga Spirits & Wine Outlet.
As population activity decreases, at the end of 2022 the Saeima decided not to continue the lottery.
However, according to the VID, the incentive of the lottery to receive a check after the purchase or service is important after the end of the lottery. The check, receipt, ticket, or invoice are not only official proof of the transaction but also a guarantee document that is important for citizens to protect their rights as consumers.
