In seventeen months since the receipt lottery was launched in Latvia, it has grown state budget revenue by 1.96 million euros, said State Revenue Service (VID) December 29.

The purpose of the receipt lottery is to promote fair competition and voluntary fulfilment of tax obligations by encouraging buyers to demand checks and receipts for purchased goods and services.

In order to participate in the lottery, a receipt, check, or a ticket has to be registered on cekuloterija.lv by providing some information.

The information obtained from the lottery is mainly used by the VID for preventive activities, inviting companies to clarify tax obligations. During preventive measures and inspections, entrepreneurs have submitted 1411 updated declarations at the request of the VID and have declared taxes of EUR 1 932 457 in addition.

In the 51 VID inspections, infringements were found for which a total fine of €25 620 was imposed. As a result, the revenue of the State budget has been increased by EUR 1 958 077 since July 1 2019..

About 50,000 residents participate in the lottery each month.
