Electricity saving call this week in Latvia

Take note – story published 1 year ago

According to the assessment of the transmission system operators of the Baltic States, on December 14, 15 and 16 , electricity generation capacity reserves will be very small, as reported by “High Voltage Network” (Augstsprieguma tīkls, AST).

Such a situation may result in an increase in electricity prices on the stock exchange.

Power supply constraints are unlikely, but their possibility cannot be ruled out entirely if unplanned incidents occurred in the energy system, such as failures of power plants or interconnectors.

Consumers are invited to save electricity as far as possible in peak hours of consumption, typically between 8:00 and 12:00 and 15:00 to 19:00.

“This week is getting colder in Northern Europe and will be the first winter challenge for the energy system. A tense situation has emerged in southern Sweden and Finland, where increased consumption is interrupted by the unavailability of individual nuclear plants. The situation in the Baltic is relatively good, but the potential shortages of electricity supply capacity in Sweden and Finland from which the Baltic States receive electricity may have an impact on the Baltic energy system,” said Gatis Jungāns, board member of the AST, referring to the analysis provided by the Joint Regional Coordination Center for the transmission system operators of the Baltic States.
