The European Commission on Tuesday adopted the new cross border cooperation program ("Interreg") between Latvia and Lithuania which will receive €55 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), according to the Commission's website.

European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu said: "Our Interreg program are tangible examples of how the EU is working to help citizens address common challenges and tap into shared potential. The program adopted today means that the regions along the border between Latvia and Lithuania can now step up a gear in their integration."

EU investments in this program will help preserve the environment, support employment and cross-border labor mobility and promote social inclusion. Actions in these areas will be complemented by efforts to improve the efficiency of public services.
