Excise tax hike brings booze prices up on par with Lithuania

Take note – story published 5 years ago

An excise tax hike will make booze more expensive starting March 1, the State Revenue Service said.

According to estimates of the tax service, a 0.5l bottle of 5% beer will cost €0.02 more, a bottle of wine (0.75 liters) will cost €0.08 more while a 0.5 liter bottle of vodka will cost €0.41 more.

The State Revenue Service said that this brings Latvia's excise tax for booze up on par with that of Lithuania, but it remains significantly lower than in Estonia.

As reported, in 2017 one in ten Estonians made a trip to Latvia to stock up on booze.
