All day Friday until close of business at 19:00 at the Sakta central branch of the Postal Service collectors can line up for the first stamping of the commemorative stamps and matching envelopes “150 years for Latvian firefighting”.
The stamp is worth €1.42 and was printed in a run of 100,000 while only 1,500 copies were made of the envelope, also designed by author Ludis Danilāns and printed at Latvia’s Baltic Banknote press.
The origins of public firefighting services in Latvia date to 1864, but Saeima pronounced May 17 to be the professional festival day for the state Fire and Rescue Services in 2011. Last week a commemorative coin was also released by the central bank.
