The government decision requires residential house managers to provide appropriate heating system settings for the period from October 1, 2022 to April 30, 2023, so that the air temperature of the apartments does not exceed +19 degrees Celsius, but must not be lower than +18 C in the rooms with the lowest air temperature.
By reducing the air temperature of residential areas by one degree, approximately 5% of the heating costs are saved, which makes considerable savings in the long term, EM said. The owners of the house and apartments may decide to maintain a higher temperature if the majority votes on it or if it is necessary for the house maintenance and the health of the residents.
The government's decision also provides for the right to reduce the temperature of hot water slightly or temporarily during the period from October 1 to April 30, 2023, provided that the conditions are met to avoid the reproduction of Legionella spp. bacteria. The hot water temperature at the outlet must not be lower than +55 C.
The Ministry acknowledged that there are reasonable concerns at the moment about sufficient energy resources to provide heating for residential houses during the heating season 2022/2023 because the amount of natural gas available is limited and replaced by other energy sources. As a result, the use rate of other energy sources, such as different types of wood fuels, is increasing.
