Industrial output jumped in April

Data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) and released June 3 show that, compared to April 2020, in April 2021, industrial production output rose by 20.5 % (according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices). 

Output increases were registered in manufacturing (of 20.3 %), mining and quarrying (15 %), as well as electricity and gas supply (23.1 %).

In April this year, out of 22 manufacturing sectors, 18 sectors showed a production output rise.

In April 2021, compared to March 2021, production output, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices, increased by 2.6 %, of which in manufacturing – by 3.6 % and mining and quarrying – by 4.4 %, but a drop was registered in electricity and gas supply – by 3 %.

As can be seen by the accompanying graph, there is a clear annual cycle as far as manufacturing is concerned, and a sharp rise is fairly typical in spring.

Manufacturing turnover

Compared to April 2020, in April 2021, manufacturing turnover, according to calendar adjusted data at current prices, rose by 26.2 %, turnover in the domestic market increased by 16.9 % and export turnover – by 31.2 % (of which by 18.2 % in euro area and by 42.5 % in non-euro area).

Compared to March 2021, in April 2021 manufacturing turnover, according to seasonally adjusted data, rose by 2.8 %, turnover in the domestic market increased by 3.2 %, export turnover – by 2.5 % (of which by 4.7 % in euro area and by 1 % in non-euro area).
