Industrial production rose by 2.8% in Latvia in January

Data published March 8 by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to January 2020, in January 2021 industrial production output rose by 2.8% according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices.

Production output increase was registered in manufacturing - by 2.2%, in mining and quarrying - by 4%, and in electricity and gas supply - by 7.5%.

A decrease in production output was observed in repair and installation of machinery and equipment - by 37.3%, in manufacture of textiles - by 7. % and in manufacture of other transport equipment. Output also decreased in food production and in manufacture of fabricated metal products (by 8 % and 2.3% respectively).

In January 2021, compared to December 2020, manufacturing production output according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices decreased by 1.5%. Production output decrease was registered in manufacturing - by 1.7% and in electricity and gas supply – by 1.2%, while there was a slight increase in mining and quarrying - by 0.1%.

Manufacturing turnover

Compared to January 2020, in January 2021 manufacturing turnover, according to calendar adjusted data at current prices, increased by 2 %. Turnover increased by 1.5 % in the domestic market and by 2.3 % in exports (including 8.6 % in non-euro area while turnover decreased by 4.9 % in the euro area).

In January 2021, compared to December 2020, manufacturing turnover, according to seasonally adjusted data at current prices, decreased by 3.5 %. Export turnover decreased by 5.3 % (including in the euro area - by 9.5 %, and in non-euro area - by 1.8 %), while in the domestic market the turnover increased by 0.5 %.
