Registered levels of unemployment in Latvia stood at 9 % at the end of January, which is 0.5 percentage points higher than at the end of December, according to data from the State Employment Agency. At the same time, youth unemployment in Latvia and other European countries has reached 20%, Education Minister Mārīte Seile told the Eastern Partnership Youth Forum Tuesday.
The lowest unemployment rate was registered around Riga – 5.5 %, and the highest in Latgale province - 18.5 %.
Unemployment in Kurzeme was at 11.4 % in January, Vidzeme had 10.4 % and Zemgale 9 %.
In particular municipalities, the unemployment rate at the end of January for Riga was 5.1 %, Jurmala – 6.3 %, Jelgava 6.9 %, Valmiera 7.2 %, Ventspils 9.3 %, Daugavpils 10.2 %, Jekabpils 11.2 %, Liepaja 13 %, and Rezekne 15.8 %.
